BioEden Wiki & Guide (bioeden.hunt-games.com) is a static informational website. This policy explains what happens to data when you visit it. The short version: we collect very little, we do not sell anything, and we do not ask you to create an account.
What we collect
Information you give us
The only way to give us personal information is to email us. If you do, we hold your email address and the contents of your message for as long as needed to respond and to keep a record of corrections. We do not add you to a mailing list.
Information collected automatically
Like every website, our hosting provider records standard server request data — IP address, user agent, requested URL, timestamp and referrer. This is used for security, abuse prevention and aggregate traffic understanding, and is retained for a limited period by the host.
Analytics
This site uses Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-8BWE4MKJ8N) to understand which pages are useful and how people find them. Google Analytics collects information such as the pages you view, how long you spend on them, the approximate geographic region derived from your IP address, your device type, browser and screen size, and the referring site or search engine.
Google Analytics 4 does not store raw IP addresses; they are used transiently for geolocation and then discarded by Google. We do not enable Google Signals, we do not enable advertising personalisation or remarketing features, and we do not upload any user-provided identifiers. We look at aggregate behaviour — which BioEden pages are read, which are ignored — not at individual visitors.
To opt out, install Google's official browser opt-out add-on, use a browser or extension that blocks analytics scripts, or enable your browser's tracking protection. The site works identically either way.
Cookies
We set no cookies of our own. The site itself is static and does not need them.
Google Analytics does set cookies. GA4 writes first-party cookies named _ga and _ga_G-8BWE4MKJ8N, which store a randomly generated identifier used to recognise a returning browser and to work out whether two page views belong to the same visit. They typically expire after two years and contain no name, email or other directly identifying information.
We do not set advertising cookies, and no advertising or social-media tracking pixel runs on this site. Third-party embedded content can set its own cookies once you interact with it — see below.
Third-party content
Four external services are involved in serving this site:
Google Analytics (Google). Loaded on every page to measure traffic, as described above. This is the only service on the site that runs before you interact with anything. Google's handling of the data is governed by Google's privacy policy.
Steam content delivery network (Valve). BioEden screenshots on this site are served directly from Valve's servers rather than re-hosted here. Loading a page with screenshots means your browser requests those images from Valve, which necessarily reveals your IP address to Valve. This is governed by Valve's privacy policy.
YouTube (Google). The official BioEden trailer on our homepage uses a click-to-load placeholder. No YouTube connection is made until you click it. When you do, the embed loads from youtube-nocookie.com and Google's privacy policy applies from that point.
Cloudflare. This site is hosted on Cloudflare's network, which processes requests for delivery and security purposes.
We do not control these third parties and this policy does not cover their processing.
What we do not do
- We do not sell or rent personal data to anyone.
- We do not require an account, and there is no login.
- We do not run behavioural advertising networks on this site.
- We do not enable Google Signals, advertising personalisation or remarketing in Google Analytics.
- We do not attempt to identify individual visitors, and we do not combine analytics data with anything else.
- We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or restrict processing of your personal data, and to object to processing. Since the only personal data we hold is email correspondence you initiated, in practice this means: email support@hunt-games.com and ask us to delete your messages, and we will.
Data retention
Email correspondence is kept only as long as useful for responding and for maintaining a record of corrections to the site. Server logs are retained by our host according to their own policy.
Third-party embeds on specific pages
For transparency, the pages that load third-party content are:
- Every page — Google Analytics 4, as described above.
- The homepage — the click-to-load YouTube trailer placeholder, plus four BioEden screenshots from
Valve's CDN.
- Guide, animal and biome pages — BioEden screenshots from Valve's CDN.
- Beyond those, each page loads only our own CSS and a small JavaScript file for the mobile menu and the database
filters.
No advertising network and no social media tracking pixel runs on this site.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS. Because we do not operate accounts, take payments or store sensitive personal data, the attack surface is deliberately minimal.
Legal bases for processing
Where the UK GDPR or EU GDPR applies to you:
- Email correspondence is processed on the basis of legitimate interests — responding to a message you
chose to send us, and maintaining an accurate record of corrections to a public reference site.
- Server logs are processed on the basis of legitimate interests in security, abuse prevention and keeping
the site available.
- Google Analytics is processed on the basis of legitimate interests in understanding which pages of a free
reference site are actually useful, with advertising and personalisation features disabled. If you would rather not be counted, the opt-out options above take effect immediately.
We do not process special-category data, and we do not carry out automated decision-making or profiling.
International transfers
This site is served through Cloudflare's global network, which means content is delivered from whichever data centre is closest to you. Requests for game screenshots go to Valve's content delivery network, and the trailer embed, once you click it, goes to Google. These providers operate internationally and apply their own transfer safeguards.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
We do not perform cross-site tracking, behavioural advertising or profiling, so there is no cross-site tracking for a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal to switch off. Our own analytics are first-party and aggregate-only. If you want to be excluded from measurement entirely, use one of the opt-out options in the Analytics section above — those work regardless of what signal your browser sends.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, email us first and we will try to resolve it. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority — in the UK that is the Information Commissioner's Office, and in the EU it is your national supervisory authority.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, the “last updated” date at the top will change. Because the site is static and collects little, we do not expect frequent revisions.
