BioEden is a game with a defined restoration arc rather than an endless sandbox, but it is also a game that rewards perfectionism heavily. Those two facts pull the completion time in opposite directions.
We are not going to give you an hour count
BioEden released on 3 September 2026. No verified completion data exists yet — not from the developer, not from HowLongToBeat, not from us. Any site quoting you a precise number of hours this week is estimating, and an estimate presented as a fact is exactly what this wiki refuses to print. When real completion data appears, it will go here with a source attached.
What we can tell you now is more useful for a buying decision anyway: what determines the length, and what the game actually asks of you at each stage.
If you have finished a BioEden run, tell us how long it took and we will start building a real figure from real playthroughs rather than guesses.
What actually determines how long your campaign runs
BioEden has no timer and no fail state, which means pacing is entirely player-driven. Two people can play the same campaign and spend wildly different amounts of time on it, because the game never once tells you to hurry. That is also why a single headline number would be misleading even if we had one.
The structural drivers of length are:
- Five biomes, each with its own Bestiary tab and its own branch of the Biome Knowledge Tree
- Dozens of species, each requiring a climate band, specific plants, decoration and water
- Three stages per species — Biome, Residency, Mating — each with a separate checklist
- An optional Perfect tier that requires centring temperature and humidity rather than merely satisfying them,
and which unlocks extra lore
- A Shining Status referenced in Collective Requests, apparently above Mating
- Collective Requests that can ask for things like 15000 Dinitrogen or Knowledge Level 6 in a specific biome
None of that is padding, but all of it is optional depth. A player who restores the planet and stops will finish much faster than one who wants every card in the Bestiary lit up.
What the endgame actually is
The main thread is the mystery of the Great Unraveling — what happened to this planet, and why the Cosmic Collective sent a Keeper. Focus Entertainment's own description frames it as something you *“investigate at your own pace”*, which is a fair signal that it is a slow-burn narrative rather than a plot with hard gates.
Mechanically, the late game is characterised by:
- Multiple domes across multiple biomes running simultaneously
- A power and water grid large enough that efficiency perks like Umbra's Added Electrolytes actually matter
- Impact Level management as an ongoing concern rather than an afterthought
- The expensive species — Thudder at 20 DNA and whatever sits above it in the undocumented biomes
Is there post-game content?
Nothing has been announced as a formal post-game mode. The natural continuation is completionism: raising every documented species through Mating, chasing Perfect status for the extra lore entries, and pushing every biome's Knowledge Tree. Because there is no fail state and no ending gate that removes your save, a finished planet remains playable.
Whether DLC or free content updates are coming has not been confirmed. Steam forum threads asking “will there be more?” existed during the demo period and had not been answered definitively at launch. See our news page for updates.
Is it worth twenty dollars?
Length is the wrong question to lead with. BioEden costs $19.99 and has five biomes, dozens of species with three progression stages each, an optional Perfect tier, a per-biome research tree and a pollution economy. Whether that is enough game for you depends far more on whether the specific loop of climate-tuning domes appeals than on any hour count.
The reliable way to find out is the free Steam demo, which covers the full tutorial and shows you the core loop directly. That is a better test than any number we could publish, and it costs nothing. Our review covers who the game is and is not for.
Frequently asked questions
How long does BioEden take to beat?
There is no verified figure yet. BioEden released on 3 September 2026 and no completion data has been published by the developer or collected at scale by players. Because the game has no timer and no fail state, pacing is entirely player-driven, so a single headline number would be misleading even once data exists.
Does BioEden have an ending?
It has a main narrative thread — the mystery of the Great Unraveling — which Focus Entertainment describes as something you investigate at your own pace. There is no fail state and a finished planet stays playable.
Is there post-game content in BioEden?
No formal post-game mode has been announced. The natural continuation is completionism: every species through Mating, Perfect status for extra lore, and every biome's Knowledge Tree.
Will BioEden get DLC?
Not confirmed. Players asked during the demo period and there was no definitive answer at launch.
How this BioEden page was verified
BioEden Wiki & Guide is an independent fan resource, not an official one. The gameplay systems described on this page were checked against official BioEden screenshots released by Focus Entertainment, and against the systems described on the official Steam store page. Where BioEden has not published a value, this page says so instead of guessing, because a wrong number in a BioEden guide costs a reader a dome rather than merely being untidy. Spot something out of date after a BioEden patch? Send us a correction and we will fix it and log it on the BioEden news page.
