BioEden looks simple for about twenty minutes. Then you place a second dome, discover that your solar network cannot carry it, notice your pollution has doubled, and realise the tutorial taught you the buttons rather than the game. These guides cover the parts BioEden does not explain.

The four systems that decide whether your planet succeeds
1. The economy is a salvage economy
BioEden does not give you a mine and a production chain in the usual sense. It gives you a ruined planet covered in debris, and almost everything you build early is paid for by recycling that debris. Because the recycle button refunds materials, the correct instinct in BioEden is the opposite of most builders: place things speculatively, see the effect, tear them down. There is no punishment for it.
2. Power and water are two separate networks
Solar generates electricity; water distributors move water. They use different connectors and they fail differently. A building can be fully powered and still non-functional because no pipe reaches it, and the UI does not always make the distinction obvious. This is the single most common source of "my building is not working" confusion in BioEden.
3. Pollution is regional, Impact is global
The globe widget in the HUD shows the pollution level of the region you are currently looking at — official screenshots show values from 8.1% in a healthy Jungle to 95% in a Purple Crystal Prairie. Impact Level is a separate, planet-wide number. Regional pollution affects the animals in that region. Impact Level is what triggers the Collective's Active Regulations and, past a threshold, a Crisis Alert with Charles telling you plainly that you are doing more harm than good.
4. Research is per-biome
Research in BioEden is organised as a Biome Knowledge Tree, and it levels per biome rather than globally. One official Collective Request asks the player to "raise Knowledge of Prairie to Level 6 in the Biome Knowledge Tree", which tells you two useful things: knowledge levels go at least to 6, and they are tracked separately per biome. If you intend to specialise in one biome, your research spending should follow.
A note on difficulty
BioEden is genuinely relaxing and genuinely forgiving, and if you want to build pretty domes and never look at a number, you can. But the systems underneath reward planning, and the mid-game does have failure pressure — just expressed as regulation and restriction rather than as a loss screen. Players who came in expecting zero friction and hit an Active Regulation for the first time are often surprised. That is not the game breaking; that is the game's one real difficulty curve. The pollution and Impact Level guide covers how it escalates and how to reverse it.
Frequently asked questions
What should I do first in BioEden?
Survey the hex tiles around your landing zone and salvage debris before you build anything. Debris is the foundation of the early BioEden economy and building first wastes tiles you will want later.
Does BioEden have a proper tutorial?
Yes, and the free Steam demo is the tutorial. It teaches resource management, building, exploration and animal care, but it stops short of the systems that actually matter mid-game, which is what these guides cover.
How this BioEden page was verified
BioEden Wiki & Guide is an independent fan resource, not an official one. The gameplay systems described on this page were checked against official BioEden screenshots released by Focus Entertainment, and against the systems described on the official Steam store page. Where BioEden has not published a value, this page says so instead of guessing, because a wrong number in a BioEden guide costs a reader a dome rather than merely being untidy. Spot something out of date after a BioEden patch? Send us a correction and we will fix it and log it on the BioEden news page.
