BioEden Controls & Keybinds

Quick answer

BioEden supports keyboard and mouse plus full controller input, with DualSense support confirmed on the Steam listing. The persistent on-screen prompts are Camera zoom, Camera move, Rotate camera and Interact. Mouse suits optimisers reading dense tooltips; a controller suits handheld and console play. Rotate the camera before placing anything — misjudged placement is the most common early mistake.

BioEden supports keyboard and mouse and full controller input, including DualSense features on PlayStation. Both are confirmed on the official Steam listing, which lists *Full controller support* and *DualSense Controller Support* as store categories.

Confirmed control prompts

The on-screen prompts visible in official BioEden screenshots give a clear picture of the camera model:

PromptFunction
Camera zoomZoom the view in and out
Camera movePan across the hex grid
Rotate cameraOrbit the view around the current focus
InteractContext action on the highlighted object
Camera PanAppears in the Bestiary for orbiting the animal model

Those five prompts are present persistently in the bottom-left of the world view, which tells you something useful: BioEden expects you to be moving the camera constantly, and it is the camera rather than the build menu that new players fight with.

The camera is the actual learning curve

If there is one control-related piece of advice worth giving, it is this: the most common early BioEden mistake is caused by the camera, not the interface. Players place a solar pylon, the camera angle makes it unclear whether the placement registered, and they place a second one. The materials are gone and the planet has two pylons where one was intended.

Two habits prevent it:

  1. Rotate before you place. Getting a clear angle on the tile you are targeting takes two seconds.
  2. Check your power total after placing, not your memory of the screen. The number is authoritative; the

isometric view is not.

Controller versus mouse

BioEden is playable and comfortable on a controller, and on Switch 2 or in handheld play it is genuinely pleasant. But there is an honest trade-off worth stating: this is a game with dense tooltips, a Bestiary full of small numbers, and a hex grid where precise tile selection matters. Those all favour a mouse.

Use mouse and keyboard if you plan to optimise, read every tooltip, and build tightly packed networks. Use a controller if you are playing on a console or handheld and want the calm, unhurried experience the game is designed around. Neither choice locks you out of anything.

The dome overlay bar

Inside a dome, a row of overlay toggles appears at the bottom of the screen. Official screenshots show four of them — animals, plants, temperature and humidity — and they are the fastest diagnostic tool in the game. When an animal will not settle and you cannot see why, switching on the temperature and humidity overlays shows you the actual distribution across the dome floor rather than a single average number.

This matters more than it sounds. A dome can report an acceptable average temperature while one corner sits outside the band, and an animal that spends its time in that corner will never reach Residency. See perfect environment and mixed-biome domes.

Accessibility

Subtitles are supported across all eleven interface languages. One recurring piece of demo feedback was that the opening cinematic specifically needed subtitles, which is worth reporting to the developers if you encounter it rather than treating it as a bug.

Because full controller support is present on PC, Steam Input remapping is available, which is the practical route to custom bindings if the default scheme does not suit you.

Rebinding

BioEden's settings menu is reachable from the gear icon in the top right of the HUD in every screen shown in official material. Specific rebinding options have not been documented in detail publicly; if you are on PC and need a binding the game does not offer, Steam Input is the reliable fallback.

Frequently asked questions

Does BioEden have controller support?

Yes. The Steam listing includes both Full controller support and DualSense Controller Support as store categories.

What are the BioEden camera controls?

Camera zoom, camera move (pan), rotate camera and interact are the four persistent prompts shown in the world view. The Bestiary adds a Camera Pan prompt for orbiting animal models.

Is BioEden better with mouse or controller?

Mouse and keyboard for precise tile selection and dense tooltips; controller for console, handheld and relaxed play. Neither locks you out of content.

What are the overlay buttons inside a dome?

A row of toggles for animals, plants, temperature and humidity. The temperature and humidity overlays are the fastest way to find a cold or dry corner that is stopping an animal from settling.

How this BioEden page was verified

BioEden Wiki & Guide is an independent fan resource, not an official one. The gameplay systems described on this page were checked against official BioEden screenshots released by Focus Entertainment, and against the systems described on the official Steam store page. Where BioEden has not published a value, this page says so instead of guessing, because a wrong number in a BioEden guide costs a reader a dome rather than merely being untidy.
