Guild choice is the first real decision in a BioEden campaign, it happens before you understand the game, and there is no confirmed way to change it later. That combination makes it worth two minutes of thought.
The short answer
Pick Euler for your first campaign. Cheaper and stronger construction forgives the layout mistakes every new Keeper makes, and you will make them — the misplaced pylon, the network that does not reach, the dome sited one tile too far from the water. Euler makes each of those cost less.
Pick Darwin if the animals are the point. If you bought BioEden to fill a Bestiary rather than to optimise a grid, Darwin's biology and fauna focus aligns with what you will actually spend your time on.
Save Umbra and Xylar for a second run. Both reward knowledge you do not have yet.
The full ranking for a first campaign
| Rank | Guild | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Euler | Construction efficiency applies to everything you build, and it is at its most valuable when you are still making mistakes. Note that no Euler perk values have been published; this ranking reflects its community-reported focus, not a transcribed stat. |
| 2 | Darwin | Bestiary and fauna focus. Slightly narrower than Euler but it is aimed squarely at the part of BioEden most people came for. |
| 3 | Orin | Exploration and native resource mapping. Genuinely useful, but its value depends on how much of the planet you intend to survey, and new players tend to build tightly around the landing zone. |
| 4 | Umbra | The Mystic Guild. Excellent perks — but they are efficiency multipliers that need infrastructure to multiply. Weak on run one, strong on run three. |
| 5 | Xylar | Turning dead matter into new life. Expert-facing, tightest resource assumptions, least forgiving of a first-campaign mistake. |
Why Umbra is strong later and weak early
Umbra's confirmed level-6 perks, transcribed from an official screenshot, are:
- Speed Reading — research speed +15%
- Added Electrolytes — reduce device water consumption by 10%
Read those carefully. Both are *percentages of something you already have*. A 10% reduction in device water use is worth a great deal on a planet running three climate-controlled domes with a dozen humidifiers and air conditioners. On a planet with one dome and two devices, 10% of very little is very little.
Umbra also has two level-5 perks named Terrain Cleaner and Eco Device. Their effect text is not legible in the available screenshot, so we are not going to tell you what they do — the names suggest a cleanup and efficiency direction, and that is as far as an honest reading goes.
This is the general principle for BioEden guild selection: percentage perks scale with how much game you are playing. Early, flat advantages like cheaper construction win. Late, multipliers win.

Guilds also decide which missions you see
Your guild is not just a perk tree — guilds issue Collective Requests. Official screenshots show simultaneous offers from a Mystic Guild, an Exploration Guild and a Technology Guild, asking respectively for animal husbandry, four Orb Factories, and a 15000 Dinitrogen stockpile.
Those are three very different campaigns. If you know you want to spend your time raising species rather than running industry, that is a real input into which guild you align with.
Can you change guild in BioEden?
Nothing published confirms a mid-campaign guild switch. Treat the choice as campaign-length. Because BioEden has no fail state, the downside of a suboptimal guild is a slightly slower campaign rather than a ruined one — but it is still a decision you make once.
Which guild is best overall?
Not a well-formed question, and any tier list that answers it confidently is overselling. The perks are efficiency modifiers rather than transformative abilities, which is good design for a cozy game: no guild locks you out of content, and none trivialises the game.
The honest ranking is by *campaign stage*, not by power:
- First campaign: Euler.
- Second campaign, animal focus: Darwin.
- Second campaign, wide planet: Orin.
- Third campaign, optimising: Umbra.
- When you want a challenge: Xylar.
What to do immediately after choosing
Whichever guild you take, the opening is the same: survey before building, salvage every debris site, one solar pylon and one water distributor, then a dome with an Incubator. See the beginner guide.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best guild in BioEden for beginners?
Euler. Its construction efficiency applies to everything you build and is most valuable exactly when you are still making placement mistakes.
Is Umbra good in BioEden?
Very good, later. Its confirmed level-6 perks are Speed Reading (+15% research speed) and Added Electrolytes (−10% device water consumption). Both are percentages of infrastructure you have to already own, which makes them weak on a first campaign and strong on a mature planet.
Can you change guild in BioEden?
No mid-campaign guild switch has been confirmed. Treat the choice as campaign-length.
Does your guild affect which missions you get?
Yes. Guilds issue Collective Requests, and official screenshots show simultaneous offers from the Mystic, Exploration and Technology Guilds asking for very different things.
How this BioEden page was verified
BioEden Wiki & Guide is an independent fan resource, not an official one. The guild names and perk wording on this page were transcribed from an official BioEden Collective screen screenshot. Where BioEden has not published a value, this page says so instead of guessing, because a wrong number in a BioEden guide costs a reader a dome rather than merely being untidy.
