How to read this table. Every value marked *Confirmed* is transcribed from an official BioEden screenshot or the Steam store page. *Partial* means the animal and its DNA cost are confirmed but its climate band is not yet documented. *Named only* means the species appears in a Collective Request in official material but has no published stats. We would rather leave a cell empty than fill it with a guess — if you are planning a dome around a number, you need to know where that number came from.
How the BioEden Bestiary is organised
The Bestiary is the screen where every BioEden animal lives. It is split by biome across six tabs — Forest, Jungle, Prairie, Savannah, Tundra and an all-species view — and each tab shows a grid of species cards. Card colour is doing real work here and it is worth learning:
- Blue header — the species is already unlocked and can be incubated right now. Landowl and Ributs start
in this state in the Jungle tab.
- Green header with a DNA number — available to unlock, and the number is the exact DNA fragment cost.
- Grey header — gated behind something other than DNA, usually research progress. Thudder is grey in the
Jungle tab despite showing a 20 DNA price, which is why players who save up 20 fragments early are confused when they still cannot hatch it.
Selecting a card opens a requirement panel on the right with three tabs: Biome, Residency and Mating. Those three tabs are three separate checklists, not one. An animal can be perfectly happy in your dome under the Biome tab and still refuse to become a resident, because Residency asks for things Biome does not.
What each BioEden animal actually needs
Reduced to essentials, every species in the BioEden game cares about five things:
- Temperature band. A minimum and maximum in degrees. Landowl accepts a very wide 20–45°, which is
exactly why it is the tutorial species. Later species narrow that window sharply.
- Humidity band. Same idea, expressed as a percentage. Landowl wants 55–90%.
- Required plants. Listed as *Animal and Plant Required* on the card. Landowl needs two Ferns. Plants are
placed from the dome build palette and count as both food and habitat.
- Decoration. A general measure of how furnished the dome is. Rocks, burrows, water features and plants all
contribute.
- Diet, and who else is in the dome. This is the requirement the Bestiary does not put a number on, and the
one that ruins the most domes. See carnivores vs herbivores.
The three stages every animal moves through
Every BioEden species progresses through the same ladder, and each rung has its own requirement list:
| Stage | What it means | What it typically needs |
|---|---|---|
| Biome | The animal can survive here. This is the gate for taking it out of the Incubator at all. | Temperature and humidity inside the band, required plants present |
| Residency | The animal chooses to stay and counts as a permanent resident of the dome | Everything above, plus decoration, water access and enough space |
| Mating | The animal reproduces and the population grows on its own | Everything above, plus a compatible partner and no active stressors |
| Perfect | Optional excellence tier that unlocks extra lore entries | Temperature and humidity centred in the band rather than merely inside it |
There is also a Shining Status referenced in official Collective Requests — the Mystic Guild asks you to “raise Scroftusk to Shining Status”. It reads as a per-species prestige state above Mating, but its exact requirements have not been published, so we have not invented any.
Where DNA fragments come from
DNA is the hard currency of the BioEden Bestiary and it is deliberately scarce early. You get it from surveying and salvaging out in the world, from research, and from Collective Requests. The practical consequence is that your first ten hours of BioEden are a budgeting exercise: a 3 DNA Fimble and a 5 DNA Slink together cost less than a single 10 DNA Mirra, and three cheap species in a stable dome produce far more progress than one expensive species in a dome you cannot yet climate-control. Full detail on the DNA and Bestiary page.
Help us finish this database
The Jungle roster is documented because it appears in official screenshots. The Forest, Prairie, Savannah and Tundra rosters are not yet public. If you are playing BioEden and can screenshot a Bestiary card with its temperature, humidity and plant requirements visible, send it over and it goes into this table with a credit. That is how this page gets finished — not by guessing.
Frequently asked questions
How do you unlock new animals in BioEden?
Spend DNA fragments in the Bestiary. Select a species card with a green header, pay the listed DNA cost, then incubate it in a dome whose climate matches. Full detail on the DNA and Bestiary page.
How many animals are in BioEden?
Marketing describes “dozens” of species across five biomes. Nine are named in official material so far: seven Jungle species plus Scroftusk and Vinex, which appear in Collective Requests without published stats.
Why can I not unlock Thudder even with enough DNA?
Thudder's card has a grey header in the Bestiary, which indicates a gate beyond DNA cost — normally research progress. Save the 20 fragments for cheaper species until the gate clears.
Can carnivores and herbivores live in the same BioEden dome?
Technically yes, and it usually goes badly. Diet is an unlisted requirement and predators will eat the animals you housed with them. See carnivores vs herbivores.
How this BioEden page was verified
BioEden Wiki & Guide is an independent fan resource, not an official one. The species names, DNA costs and climate values on this page were transcribed directly from an official BioEden Bestiary screenshot; any value not legible in official material is marked as unconfirmed rather than estimated. Where BioEden has not published a value, this page says so instead of guessing, because a wrong number in a BioEden guide costs a reader a dome rather than merely being untidy. Spot something out of date after a BioEden patch? Send us a correction and we will fix it and log it on the BioEden news page.
