BioEden Demo Guide

Quick answer

The BioEden demo is free on Steam and gives full access to the tutorial. No runtime has been published, so it is scoped by content rather than time. Demo saves do not carry into the full game. It teaches the complete core loop but stops short of Active Regulations, deep Knowledge Tree progression, guild levelling and four of the five biome rosters, so a demo that feels thin is not representative of the full game's depth.

Do demo saves carry over to the full game?

No. This is the most asked demo question and the answer is straightforward: starting the full game means starting a new planet. That is standard for demos and it is not a bug.

Practically, it means you should treat the demo as an evaluation rather than a head start. Do not spend hours perfecting a dome expecting to keep it.

How long is the demo?

Steam does not publish a runtime for it and we are not going to invent one. What the demo covers is defined rather than timed: it gives full access to the tutorial, which teaches the core loop — survey, salvage, power, water, dome, Incubator, Bestiary, climate. That loop is genuinely the whole game in miniature, and how long it takes depends entirely on how thoroughly you explore, since nothing in BioEden is timed.

What is the demo's final goal?

One of the early threads on the official Steam board asked exactly this. The demo does not have a dramatic conclusion; it ends when the tutorial content ends. If you were looking for a boss or a finale, that is not what this is.

The honest framing: the demo's goal is to show you the loop. If tuning a dome and watching a Landowl settle in is satisfying to you after ninety minutes, the full game gives you five biomes, dozens of species, a per-biome research tree and a pollution economy built on top of that same loop. If it is not satisfying, the full game will not change your mind, and you have saved twenty dollars.

What the demo does not show you

This matters, because several of BioEden's most interesting systems sit past the tutorial:

  • Active Regulations and Crisis Alerts. The consequence system for high Impact Level is a mid-game concern.
  • The Biome Knowledge Tree at depth. Research is tracked per biome and Collective Requests can demand specific

levels.

  • Guild progression. The Collective screen runs guild levels from 1 to 10 with perk pairs at each.
  • The full Bestiary. The demo shows the Jungle roster; there are four more biome tabs.
  • Collective Requests as competing choices. The full game offers simultaneous missions from different guilds

with very different costs.

So a demo that feels a little thin is not necessarily representative of the full game's depth. It is representative of the full game's *pace*, which is the more useful thing to evaluate.

Which animals are in the demo?

The demo covers the tutorial, which is set in the Jungle biome. The documented Jungle roster is Landowl and Ributs (both pre-unlocked), plus Fimble (3 DNA), Slink (5), Basker (7), Mirra (10) and Thudder (20, additionally gated). How many of those are reachable within demo content depends on how much DNA the tutorial provides. See the animals database.

Can you get perfect environments in the demo?

Another genuine board question. The constraint is dome count: Perfect status is an optional rating above simply satisfying a species' band, and two species sharing one dome must share one temperature and one humidity. With limited domes, some species will necessarily be housed in a compromise climate.

Landowl is the species worth trying it on, because its confirmed 20–45° / 55–90% band is wide and forgiving. Note that BioEden has not published what Perfect actually requires, so no guide can give you a target value — ours certainly will not.

Is the demo still available after launch?

It was available at launch. Publishers sometimes remove demos after release, so if you want it, get it now. Check the Steam demo page for current status.

After the demo

If you are convinced, the full game is on Steam at $19.99, and also on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. Before you start your real campaign, two pages are worth five minutes: which guild to pick, because there is no confirmed way to change it, and the beginner guide, because the opening build order matters more than the tutorial suggests.

BioEden Wiki & Guide is an independent fan resource, not an official one. The demo details on this page come from the official BioEden demo Steam listing and player reports on the official discussion board. Where BioEden has not published a value, this page says so instead of guessing, because a wrong number in a BioEden guide costs a reader a dome rather than merely being untidy.
